Sunday best part II

Hello reader,

Again I apologize for not posting anything up for so long, I know how much of a fan you're with my work. To make it up to you, here's another blog update. The day after Ainul landed, I jokingly suggested to Mu'izz that we take her out for a night in the town, I never thought she'd say yes but boy was I in for a surprise. So I broke out my Sunday best and dressed to the nines, right after school I picked Mu'izz up and went on a mini-roadtrip to Ainul's. We were greeted by the warmest and most welcoming smile, I can tell she was excited. We made our way to Gadong, Ainul and I had a marvelous catch-up session over sushi, unfortunately Mu'izz couldn't join us as he was breaking fast with his tuition mates. We reunited short after for a quick tea session over at The Colony teahouse and watched a movie afterwards. The Wolverine (2013) was a little bit disappointing, nonetheless, I enjoyed watching it albeit falling asleep a couple of times at the beginning. I'd still recommend you to watch this over Man of Tai Chi.

Ainul looking unmistakably trendy pairing a white high waisted jeans with a printed crop top and donning a maroon sunhat while toting a leather bag, check out her blog on how to achieve this look.

Mu'izz diaper as ever wearing a button up oxford shirt with mint trousers, head over his blog for details of his outfit.

It definitely was a fun night out for me, I truly am blessed to be surrounded by good friends. Friends that speaks Prada but won't trade me in for one. I hope. Praying that we'll be good friends till the day that wrinkle cream no longer works. Amin.

OOTD: Back to school

Hello reader,

I apologize for the delay in posting this as the internet connection has been a little bit laggy as of late and module registration is taking up too much time but I won't get into that.

All aboard!

Pants: PiazzaItalia

My first proper OOTD
It's the first day of school and I have decided to wear a nautical inspired outfit with white and blue breton striped button up shirt from PDI tucked in a pair of pastel yellow pants. Breton stripe is definitely on it's way to becoming a wardrobe staple. Just like the military inspired trend, the yacht club going, nautical inspired sailor look is here to stay so it's definitely worth investing in a few pieces. The sleek simplicity of the skinny belt is just the right addition to the outfit. Instead of wearing my usual chukka boots, I slipped on my dress slippers for this outfit to create the exposed ankle look. According to most style blogs, rolled up pants and exposed ankle is a style no-no for someone of my height but you see, i'm a rebel and I just happen to think that my ankles are seksi. Of course a back to school outfit wouldn't be complete without a school bag so I carried around a faux leather (wouldn't want peta spilling paint on my outfit) satchel from asos.com.

Who says you can't look good and still maintain a 4.0 GPA? Praying for a good semester ahead of me, dear reader please pray for me.

OOTD: Summer.

Hello reader,

I have school first thing tomorrow morning, I know it's a Sunday tomorrow but we've been called to submit our agreement form for our scholarship. Finally.

Today's outfit is definitely not something I would usually post but I feel it's appropriate this time around, the days are getting hotter now that the constant heavy rain has stopped. Sobs. However, the scorching heat should never be a reason to step out of the house looking like a hobo. No offense to the hipsters. To top it off, I had to run a few errands so wearing something comfortable is of utmost importance.
Shirt: Goggles
Tee: Doodle tee
Shorts: Banana tropical
Sandals: Caspia

I opted for a summer/beach appropriate outfit; donning a pastel orange graphic tee with a blue+red+white plaid shirt over it with rolled sleeves ala James Dean. Rolled up sleeves has this air of nonchalance and danger, adding panache to an outfit especially when you're wearing something basic like a t-shirt. The desert yellow shorts with a navy blue detailing on the hem is a testament to my dad's talent of paying attention to his children's style or perhaps, seeing me wearing shorts one too many times, drove him to buy me a pair. Whatever his reason is, I am definitely not complaining. After the tragic death of my TOMS, I had to resort to wearing sandals, these pair of Caspia gladiator inspired sandal is a better option to the traditional flip-flops. Afterall, Tom Ford once said;

'Flip-flops and shorts in the city are never appropriate.'

Surprise!

Hello reader,

In the spirit of Pizza huts' double Tuesday, I am going to treat you guys with another blog post at 50% off. Yay.

Without further ado, I am going to tell you how my day went, the part when my friends surprised me INSIDE  the cinema after that gaddawful, sad excuse of a movie. As the credits rolled, people started to get up, the #1 rule for me is, if the lights are still off, don't stand up just yet. Suddenly out of nowhere, the Happy birthday song crept up on me, picking up volume as I turned my head around. My initial reaction was to continue on singing along thinking there's someone in the audience having his birthday today seeing that my birthday is three days away but to my surprise, my friend Dayah was holding a blueberry, candle-less birthday cake pointed at my direction. IT'S FOR ME YOU GUYS! Can you hear the excitement in my voice? I was taken aback. Speechless, for the lack of a better word (Most likely caused by my insufficient knowledge of the english vocabulary) As I mentioned on the previous post, we had sungkai together afterwards. It was pretty eventful and stuff. Another round of happy birthday song for me, with candles this time, made my wish, blew it and had one helluva time.

The birthday card that came along with the cake. Such sweet messages.

Me, holding a cake with my friends, inside the movie theatre, during Ramadhan. Yup, completely normal.

Sometimes I wonder how did I get so lucky to have such a kind hearted, insane and a part time badass group of friends. Other times, I wonder how my life would have been different if I hadn't met them. I am not just saying this because you guys (I know y'all are reading this) bought me cake 3 days ahead of my birthday, which by the way is really sweet of you, but because it is a pleasure for me to have met each and everyone of you at a point in my life where I needed a friend more than than I needed my clothes. Don't get the wrong idea, I am not about to go naked for my friends but you get the sentiment. I hope. To many more surprises and birthday celebrations in the future!

OOTD: Versatility.

Hello reader,

I went out for a movie date and sungkai (or the more popular term used, Iftar) with my Uni friends. Shout out to the lot of you reading right now, if it's not because of you guys reading this possibly long and winding blog post, I wouldn't have beaten my all time high of two readers per post! Thank you.

First up, Man of Tai Chi, starring Keanu Reeves and poker face asian guy was I don't know, the trailer looked awesome (for the lack of better words) but the movie fell flat to me. Unless you're a huge fan of that asian guy or martial arts movie, I wouldn't recommend you spending $4 of your dads hard earned cash watching this movie. Full review next time. Or never. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

Anyway, lets get down to why we're all here, to watch me brag about the clothes I own.

Shirt: Piazza Italia
Chinos: NewLook
Timepiece: Swatch
Socks: Debenhams
Shoes: Nike flex run 2012

Today I've decided to wear something simple and less rigid, a comfortable option for a movie day out if you asked me. Polo + chino combo is definitively me, my go-to outfit for a day out longer than a trip to the kedai runcit but instead of dressing them up, I dressed them down. The turquoise colored polo from Piazza Italia is the highlight of this outfit as it brings a pop of color to an otherwise mediocre ensemble. I traded in my brown Callitspring wingtip brogue and opted for the more comfortable, Nike flex runs in navy blue + neon green colourway. The deep purple socks puts a vast contrast in the colour spectrum. This is definitely one way to dress down and still maintain an understated, street wear stylish edge.

Truthfully, I am looking for style alternatives for the days when I don't feel like dressing up and experimenting other looks is just another way for me to mature style-wise. Being stylish isn't about putting together outfits that you think will get the most heads turning, it's a reflection of who you are and what you believe. More often than most, clothes tells a lot about a person, the effort you put in putting together an outfit shows that you care about yourself and caring about yourself is a step closer to caring about something else. W.O.W my philosophical career is going to end sooner than Kim Kardashians wedding. Oops sorry, not sorry.

 In all seriousness, some of you may say the clothes you wear on your back is "just something" you put on your back but in the wise words of Brittany Wilson/Kevin Copeland;

It's not "just" a hand bagIt's Prada!

OOTD: Sunday best.

Hello reader,

I am finding myself in a bit of a pickle trying to come up with something that is at least half as good as my horrible sociology essay back in my 'college' years so i'm just going to throw in a couple of photo of todays outfit. For someone who is style conscious and vain, I've never posted anything like this before. So here goes:
Shirt: Urban republic
Cardigan: Burton menswear
Timepiece: Swatch
Trousers: Asos.com
Socks: Debenhams
Shoes: Callitspring

The look that i'm going for today is a traditional shirt + cardigan combo. Tucked in checkered shirt with a plum cardigan over it paired with a light blue chino. The chino did a great job in subtracting the age off this entire ensemble, it's easy to look older when you're wearing a cardigan over a dress shirt (Quick, someone sing a Katy Perry hits, Mr. Schuester is coming!) You can't see my socks but underneath those brown suede chukka boots from ALDO's sister company, Callitspring, is a striking blueish green? (Girls help me out here) pair of socks. I am a big believer of bright and bold coloured socks, it's more than just a stench reducer for our feet. It can make or break an outfit, case in point, wearing white socks with black pants is a big, overweight NO. Plus, you can tell a lot about a person by judging their socks.

Before I end this post, I believe it is mandatory for every style blogger out there to at least quote the most overused quote in the universe by the famous french designer M. YSL;

"Fashions fadestyle is eternal."

Age.

Hello reader,
I'm going to start off this possibly long and boring post with a quote from the movie The switch starring Jen Aniston, Jason Bateman and this kid.
Sebastian: Why wouldn’t anyone want people to know about their birthday?
Wally Mars: Because getting old sucks. Most people don’t accomplish what they’d hope to and they realize that they are most likely not going to. They end up living these quite lives of denial, and uh… brushing birthdays under the rug just becomes a part of that.
Age is a funny thing, it’s just a number yet it has such a profound effect on us. It determines dictates our every move, every decision and every thought. Why? Honestly, just like you, i’m still looking for that answer.
20 years. That’s how long i’ve been roaming this earth. Frankly, I feel like I haven’t been making any progress and i’m wasting my time on whatever non-sense that I get myself into. Okay some of my twitter followers have this unhealthy obsession over this European boy band, One direction (1D). Hold on, before you get the wrong idea, what i’m trying to say here is they’re roughly (or exaclty?) around my age and they’ve achieved so much. Multi-million dollar endorsements and record deals and not to mention millions of adoring fangirls (& boys.) I know this sounds bias considering that i’m judging this based on the standpoint of fame but you get the notion. They’ve achieved what they set out to achieve. Have I?
Let me ask you. How many plans, hopes, dreams, ambition that you have actually fulfilled? Exactly.  Will I ever graduate the top of my class? Will I ever get a good job? Will I ever achieve a better future for myself? You see, everything boils down to the future. We’re living for the future; we go to school to be able to get into a good college to get the right qualification to get a good job in order to have a good life. We’re slaves for the future. And i’m not ready for the future. I’m not ready to grow up. I don’t want to grow up and realize that I’ll never achieve what I’ve hoped for. I keep saying to myself that everything will be okay, just like it did last time and the time before. But what if it never will?
Okay, i'll stop. So the bottom line is I’m getting older and I’m not sure what I am doing. Excuse my pretentious suicidal-esque teenage rant.
